Antique English Boulle Scent Bottle Box / Casket
A really stunning box, William IV in era around 1830, this is about as good as Boulle gets.
The shell was attached to the hardwood frame with coloured matter below (in this case red) to give this highly sought after reddish-orange colouring to these works of art. This process first developed by the French cabinetmaker, André-Charles Boulle (11 November 1642 – 28 February 1732, highly popular in nineteenth century Britain.
The box opens to reveal the original four cut crystal perfume bottles, with deep cutting and sterling silver tops, engraved and appear to have originally been gilded (silver gilt) which has worn to give a beautiful two tone colouring to the lids. All the bottles are in excellent condition, one with a rough lip from small chipping (the one marked Ess Bouquet) two of the bottles have old labels that at some time were applied.
The interior of the box is all original, lined in blue velvet, in excellent condition. Excellent condition, the box measures 5 3/4" x 4 1/4" x 4 1/8" tall each bottle stands 3 1/8" tall.
