Antique Canteen, English, Oak, Campaign Cutlery
This is an antique canteen. An English, fine oak campaign cutlery case by Mappin & Webb, dating to the Edwardian period, circa 1910.
Exceptional quality and of comprehensive arrangement
Fine craftsmanship and form presents opportunity for use as a quality specimen cabinet
Displaying a desirable aged patina and in very good order
Select oak shows superior grain interest and wisps of medullary rays
Rich caramel hues beam beneath the wax polish finish
Gently rolled lid with unmarked shield cartouche - ideal for personalised engraving
Pair of field panel doors, dressed with an inset brass-lined lock — in working order, key present
Three drawer interior, each fitted with brass shield backplates with recessed handles
Drawers lined with striking cobalt blue velvet, with small plaques for each type of cutlery
Of large service size, hosting 108 absent pieces - drawers can hold 36, 43 and 29pcs respectively
Brass drop handles to either side for ease of carriage, in the campaign manner
Benefits from a recently applied emerald green protective baize to base
