A Black Forest wood dip pen with brass end and nib. The pen features a country man with rifle sat on a tree stump. The figure is nicely carved and shows fine detail to his face. The brass grip part is also nicely decorated in an Egyptian design which adds to the overall quality of this collectible item. The nib is in good order and has the name JOSEPH GILLOT along with NO 4 the letter M and a crown with the letters S & O either side.

Black forest carvings do not actually come from the black forest region of Germany but in fact come from the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland. These carvings date back to the 19th century and were thought to have originated in Germany when they first began to appear in the United States. They have since become very collectible items. We are always happy to consider offers from buyers so long as they are sensible.
