An antique galonne cased Omega pocket watch
An antique galonne cased Omega pocket watch.
The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed Omega and it has the serial number 3,401,236 underneath the dial and this dates the watch back to around 1910. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which is also signed and it has details of medals won at the Paris Grand Prix trade exhibition in 1900.
The watch itself measures 52mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The watch has a galonne case which means it is 800 silver with a rose gold wash around the bezel and also around the edge of the hinged case back… as with many of the galonne cased watches, there is quite a lot of rubbing to the rose gold wash. There are Swiss hallmarks inside the two case backs, together with the early Omega stamp. The case is in lovely condition.
The glass lens is in good condition with just the odd minor mark.
The white enamel dial has lovely numbers, with curly flourishes which give the dial plenty of charm. There is a little nibbling around the edge, mostly hidden by the bezel, and a short hairline crack at number 4. The ornate hands are a charming feature, and were very popular in Scandinavia at the beginning of the 20th Century. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
