African Mancala Game In Crocodile Case
A superb piece of vintage African tribal art.
This beautifully carved crocodile opens to reveal a Mancala pit board (also known as Oware) the origination of which goes back thousands of years.
The game contains 47 it's original nickernut seeds.
The wood will be a native African hardwood.
Mancala is one of the oldest known two-player board games in the world, believed to have been created in ancient times.
There is archaeological and historical evidence that dates Mancala back to the year 700 AD in East Africa.
This particular game is of a most impressive size.
The game came to me having been presented to it's former owner directly by an African Oba.
The quality of this piece is such that it becomes a superb display item when not being used.
The rules of this game can be found by a quick search of the internet.
