Aberdeenshire Farming Medal for Ploughing c1858
A good antique, Victorian Scottish Silver Agricultural Medal.
This Highland Agricultural Society of Scotland medal was presented to George Murray, Mains of Kindrought in 1858 for ploughing.
Mains of Kindrought is a farm in Aberdeenshire in the northeast of Scotland between Strichen and Fetterangus.
I have attached a copy of an extract from Transactions of the Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland that has a List of Ploughing Competitions reported to the Society in 1858-1859. George Murray, Farm Servant, Mains of Kindrought is listed as being awarded the First Premium and Society's Medal on 23rd December 1858 in Aberdeenshire.
The medal measures 35mm in diameter. The weight is 28.2g.
In excellent condition, although it does have minor edge knocks.
It is apparently unmarked (this is common for Scottish silver medals of this age), therefore selling as white metal. Specialists in Antique Pocket Watches & Vintage Wristwatches, Jewellery, Silver (including Scottish Provincial),Good Quality Antiques & Works of Art.
