A Gents Silver 1917 Wrist Watch
A gents silver 1917 wrist watch.
The watch has a hand-winding movement with 15 jewels which is working nicely.
The watch itself measures 32mm wide excluding the winding crown and 32mm high excluding the fixed wire lugs. The case silver and is hallmarked for London (import mark), 1917 with a sponsor’s mark for Sylvain Dreyfuss who went onto become the importer for Rotary watches. The case is in good condition with just some unevenness to the case back. The back of the watch has a personal inscription to Percy Wood Roney. Mr Roney was born in 1900 so the watch was given to him for his 21st birthday. He was an Assistant Ordnance Mechanical Engineer in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and was mentioned in Dispatches in 1938.
The lens is in good condition.
The white enamel dial has four or five faint hairline cracks but they are not immediately obvious to the naked eye. Blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
The watch has a vintage black leather strap but we could fit a new leather strap if required. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
