A gents 1957 Tissot Camping wrist watch
A gents 1957 Tissot Camping wrist watch.
The Tissot Camping model was first introduced in the late 1930s. The name Camping was given to suggest its suitability for a rugged outdoor life.
This particular watch has a 27B-1 hand-winding movement (this calibre of movement was produced from 1950 to 1961, with the later ones not having a regulator pointer as is the case with this particular movement). The movement is working nicely and it is signed with the Tissot name, together with the serial number 3,921,903 which dates it back to 1957.
The watch itself measures 32.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The earlier Camping watches had stainless steel cases with screw-on case backs but the later ones, such as this, had plated cases with snap-on case backs. The inner case back is signed with the Tissot name. There is marking and pitting to the case, especially to the back which has significant wear to the plate.
The lens is in good condition.
The signed dial is in its original finish which has aged, sometimes now called a tropical dial. Dauphine hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
