A gents 1940s Revue wrist watch
A gents 1940s Revue wrist watch.
In 1859 Gédéon Thommen and Louis Tschopp purchased Société d' Horlogerie à Waldenbourg, a watch manufacturing company set up to provide employment for the locals… the new train connection bypassed Waldenbourg and effectively cut them off from the commercial centres. Gédéon Thommen was the founder and promoter of Waldenburgerbahn, a steam train which connected the valley’s villages.
Tschopp subsequently left the company and the company was renamed Gédéon Thommen’s Uhrenfabriken, and it became very successful.
In 1916, Thommen created the first aircraft chronograph for the Swiss Air Force and the company had great success as an aircraft instrument supplier.
As well as watches and movements, Thommen supplied a variety of equipment including altimeters, airspeed indicators, pocket altimeters for alpinists and parachutists.
This particular watch has a hand-winding movement, with 15 jewels, which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Revue name.
The watch itself measures 32.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is chrome plated with a stainless steel case back… there is some pitting to the plate, and also some wear on the fronts of the lugs where it has rubbed on a sleeve. The case back has a 1cm scratch and evidence of an earlier thread through strap.
The lens is in good condition.
The signed dial has a great appearance with original subtle two tone finish which is in good condition with original hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
