A gents 1940s Pierce wrist watch
A gents 1940s / 50s Pierce wrist watch.
Pierce was founded in 1883 in Biel, Switzerland by Leon Levy and his brothers under the name Léon Lévy Frères Manufactures des Montres et Chronographes Pierce SA. In 1910 the company employed 1500 local people which was a significant percentage of the local population of 24000.
Even with the advent of the quartz crisis in the early 1970s, Pierce saw no need to change and continued with mechanical pieces… a brave but successful decision as so many of the Swiss watch manufacturers at that time went out of business.
This particular watch has a fully signed hand-winding movement , with 15 jewels, which is working nicely.
The watch measures 31.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is in good condition for an early piece with just minor marking, nothing serious at all.
The lens is in good order.
The signed dial has age related darkening but still easy to read the time.
A new brown leather strap has been fitted.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
