A gents 1920s silver Sorority Art Deco wrist watch
A gents 1920s silver Sorority Art Deco wrist watch.
The watch has a signed 15-jewel hand-winding movement which is working nicely.
The watch itself measures 25mm wide excluding the winding crown and 31mm high excluding the lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks on the back of the watch for London (import mark), 1927 with an importer’s mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. There is a little unevenness to the case but overall it is very acceptable for a 1920s piece.
The convex lens is in good condition.
The textured Art Deco dial has handsome stylised numbers, a square subsidiary seconds dial and an inner minute track. There is some age related darkening to the dial and the blued steel finish has come off the minute hand.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
