A carved walking stick or cane. HD Holmes 1903
A carved walking stick or cane. HD Holmes 1903
This is a lovely tactile and well carved walking stick or cane where the original owner has also carved his name H.D. Holmes, and the date 1903 onto it. There are three sections to the shaft, the top one has a branch of an oak tree with leaves and acorns, a squirrel and two birds carved on it. The second section has a wonderfully carved zig-zag design, and the bottom or third section is plain with a steel ferrule on the end. The colour and glow of the patina on all the sections is just wonderful.
It is hollow and has some filler in the top of the handle where a wooden dowel has been fitted into it. This dowel rattles when the cane is shaken.
It is a beautifully carved and a “one off” walking stick / cane.
The length is 89.5 centimeters or 35.25 inches, which is a standard for a walking stick / cane.
Excellent condition with just the minor rubs of use.
UK first class and tracked post is £15.00.
