A 1968 Zenith pocket watch with chain
A 1968 Zenith pocket watch with chain.
The Zenith story started in 1865 when a Mr George Favre-Jacot started to work for himself as a clockmaker. In 1875, he succeeded in his goal to produce reasonably priced, precise fob watches. He was so successful that his company employed one-third of the working population of Locle in Switzerland. In 1896, he won the Gold Medal at the Swiss National Exhibition and in 1903 he won first prize in the Neuchâtel Observatory competition for chronometers. In 1911, Mr Favre-Jacot retired and left the flourishing business to his descendants, under the name Zenith.
This particular watch has a stem-winding movement, 17-jewel calibre 177-T, which is working nicely. As well as being signed with the Zenith name, the serial number of 6,901,218 dates it back to 1968. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has the Zenith logo to the inside.
The watch itself measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case, labelled as “metal blanc’ (white metal), is in good condition, probably polished nickel. It is in good condition and has a four pointed star to the back.
The lens is in good order.
The white enamel dial is in beautiful condition with blued steel Breguet style hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
The watch comes with a single chain which measures 32cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
