A 1940s mid-size Octo wrist watch
A 1940s mid-size Octo wrist watch.
The watch has a good quality Swiss hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed Octo Watch Company and it is all protected by an inner cover.
Octo Watch Company was a small watch factory based in Bienne in Switzerland. They exported watches to various countries with China being their top customer. In the 1970s, the popularity of quartz watches meant that the demand for mechanical watches diminished and, as with many smaller watch producers, the Octo Watch Company ceased trading. Several years later, a Hong Kong concern bought the rights to the name.
This particular watch measures 30mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs so it would suit a slimmer wrist, or it could be worn by a lady. The case is stainless steel… it has some surface marks but overall is very acceptable for such an early piece. The screw-on case back has a long service inscription dated 1947.
The lens is in good condition.
The signed dial is in its original finish although the painted infill on the numbers has been removed over the years, as has the infill in the hands. There is some marking as can be seen in the photos. Red centre seconds hand outer minute track. The dial states that the watch is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
