A 1930s Art Deco gents wrist watch
A 1930s Art Deco gents wrist watch.
The watch has a good quality Swiss hand-winding movement, 15 jewels, three adjustments which is working nicely. The movement is signed Benrus… Benrus were founded in New York in 1921 although the bulk of their manufacturing took place in la Chaux du Fonds in Switzerland.
The watch itself measures 26mm wide excluding the winding crown and 29mm high excluding the lugs. The case is chrome plated and is nicely detailed around the lens and down the sides. The hinged case back does have quite a lot of marking to it. The inside of the case back is signed Olympic Watch Company, a New York based company.
As far as we can tell, Benrus did not have any link with the Olympic Watch Company, although it is a coincidence that they were both initially New York based. This leads us to suspect that the movement and case are not original to each other although they are both from the same era and they fit very nicely together.
The lens has minor mark but is very acceptable for an Art Deco piece.
The signed dial has great Art Deco style and is in good condition. The infill has been removed from the hands over the years.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE.
