A 1920s pocket watch from Kay & Co Ltd.
A 1920s pocket watch from Kay & Co Ltd.
The watch has a good quality Swiss 15 jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
William Kay set up Kays of Worcester in 1890. Customers bought items from handbills in a folder and initially the goods on offer were limited to antique jewellery, watches, antique clocks and household items. Eventually William’s son Jack took over the running of the business. The company continued to expand and trade successfully, becoming one of Worcester’s largest employers.
The watch itself measures 50.6mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and was made in England by the Dennison Watch Case Company. The case has light surface marking from use but overall it is in nice condition for a 1920s piece.
The glass lens is in nice condition with only the odd minor mark.
The signed white enamel dial has a very faint hairline crack at 6 o'clock although only visible with a jewellers loupe, Overall it s in nice condition.
The watch has its original gold coloured hands.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
