A 1920s J W Benson pocket watch.
A 1920s J W Benson pocket watch.
J W Benson Ltd was the official watchmaker to the Admiralty and the War Department and also held a number of royal warrants, being watchmakers to Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales, the Tsar of Russia and several other royal families.
They were probably London’s most important watch makers and watch retailers of the second half of the 19th and the first half of 20th centuries selling English and Swiss made watches.
This particular watch has a Cyma stem-winding movement. This movement is working nicely, with a good strong tick, and the time keeping is good. The movement is signed J W Benson, 15 jewels, Swiss made and the Cyma calibre number 939 and it is protected by an inner hinged dust cover which has light surface marking from use..
The watch measures 50.3 mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The gold plated case is the Star model made by the Dennison Watch Case Company. The case is in nice condition.
The plastic lens is in nice condition.
The white enamel dial is signed J.W.Benson, London. The dial is in nice condition.
The watch has its original blued steel hands.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
