3 19th Century West Australian Boomerangs tribal hunting aboriginal %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A group of three 19th century boomerangs from West Australia. These are very tactile and weighty boomerangs with a lot of wear and dents, knocks, chips and splints from use.
All three are chip carved from what is believed to be Mulga wood. It was common for a boomerang to be made from Mulga wood. Mulga wood (acacia aneura) is native to arid regions of Australia and has traditionally been used by indigenous groups as a hardwood for making implements including digging tools, woomeras (spear-throwers) and boomerangs.
These three vary in size with two being 63.5cm wide and one being 56.5cm wide.
