1st Edition F.H Stingemore London Underground Map
Arthur Vandyk Antiques are delighted to present for sale this extremely rare 1925 1st edtion F.H Stingemore London Underground pocket tube map. This version of the London Underground Map was introduced in May 1925 and shows the following differences from the April 1926 edition.
1: The Wembley Empire Exhibition grounds is shown, (the exhibition was held between 9 May to 31 October 1925),
2: The maps lacks the River Thames which is shown on the April 1926 edition.
3: The reverse of the map doesn't list places of interest and instead lists technical information.
4: The Hampstead and Highgate line between Charing Cross and Kennington and the City and South London Railway line between Clapham Common and Morden are shown as being under construction.

The following information is taken from the London Transport Museum website.
This is the first edition of an Underground geographic map designed by F H Stingemore. It is one of the first designs not to show any surface detail in an attempt to clarify the design. Each Underground line is shown by a different colour and interchanges are represented by a circle in the line colour. The Hampstead and Highgate line between Charing Cross and Kennington and the City and South London Railway line between Clapham Common and Morden are shown as being under construction. The District Railway, Bakerloo and Metropolitan Railway lines are not shown in full, and stations beyond the boundary of the map have their names in a box indicating the continuation of the line. On this edition of the map Wembley Exhibition Ground is marked. The map has the title 'UndergrounD Railways Of London' and there is a reference key showing line colours. The front cover is linen on card, the title and 'Underground' roundel is printed in black on a red background.
Condition Report:
In overall good condition considering its age of nearly 97 years, heavy wear particularly to the edges and folds including a tear, age related marks and discoloration.
Rare item of London Underground history that would make an ideal gift for a railway enthusiast or alternative an ideal addition to any railway or map collection.
