19th century Yorkshire broad arm windsor chair
This is your classic 'if that piece of antique furniture could talk' piece. The chair oozes charm and character with just great patination and colour. This old boy has been around since the mid 19th century, and if you've ever sat in one of these, you'll know just how amazingly comfortable they are.
Ok. Here's the science part. Elm seated, high back broad arm windsor chair with h-form stretcher with central splat in original painted finish. The lack of a plat below the arms is an unusual feature and the turned spindle extend around the back. ??At some point, quite a long time ago, someone appears to have tried to upholster the old boy and there are traces of old holes on the arms and top bow which have been later filled. There is an old repair to the seat near the third spindle from the front on the right hand side. Some old indentations in the seat have been later filled - it looks as though someone has hit a punch in places on the seat. This is the story that the chair would tell.
What we might call a venerable old chair still ready to serve.
Measuring 44" high, 18" to seat, 26" widest point of arms
Yorkshire, c. 1840
