Rare 19th Century life-size anatomical plaster bust after Jean-Antoine Houdon’s (1741-1828) (the Flayed Man).
High quality late 19th Century French plaster bust sculpture, later painted white which gives an attractive soft gloss finish.
Dramatic and characterful full size anatomical model bust.
Very good condition. No damages.
Height: 50cm / Width: 24cm / Depth: 23cm.
L'Écorché by Jean-Antoine Houdon is a famous 18th-century anatomical sculpture of a man with his skin removed to reveal the musculature, created in Rome around 1767, serving as a pivotal study for artists demonstrating classical realism and anatomical precision, and becoming a standard training figure in art schools for centuries. It showcases Houdon's skill in capturing lifelike flesh and complex anatomy, influencing generations of sculptors and artists studying the human form.
