19th Century French pierced ormolu & glass casket
Oval and pierced gilt metal antique dressing table casket with beveled, crystal glass hinged lid. French, dating to around 1900. these are sometimes referred to as wedding caskets.
The condition is good, no significant wear to the gilding, the glass is unmarked and without damage neither is the velvet cushion which is a good colour, probably was a bit brighter in the original, but it hasn't suffered from excessive fading. The holding metal for the glass is also undamaged, tight and without loss. hinge is sound, there is also a hinge stop to prevent the top being opened too far.
Size: the oval is 5 1/4 inches in length and 3 3/8 in its depth with an overall height of 2 3/4 inches (weight is 300 gms) Buchanan and Laing Galleries are a private client business. Appointments can be made by arrangement via email.
