This is a lovely 19th century Trinity House rosewood and burr elm work box. The nice thing about this box is how much of the original elements it still retains. The lid has a British sailing ship inlaid on it and the original deep blue velvet and decoration on the under side. The interior has its original tray, lined in its original paper. The box interior is lined with the original paper which is still in relatively good nick. The rosewood is rough hewn and the texture of the box is wonderful. It speaks to it history of being a box created by the lighthouse keepers of England (often in the Portsmouth area of the UK) and sold to owners and Captains of the ships. It is a lovely piece of history.
