1978 Aquastar Benthos 1 1000m Divers Watch

An extremely rare Aquastar Benthos I 1000m divers wristwatch. The dial has a black finish with applied rectangular lume markers, edged with steel at the quarters. The dial is surrounded by an outer minute track, alternating at every 5 minute segment. The design of the hands mirror the hour markers, overlapping perfectly for accurate reading of the time. The dial is surrounded by a uni-directional rotating bezel, designed to accurately measure the elapsed time of a dive. This watch features an innovative flyback minuute counter, indicated by the large orange arrowhead hand. This is reset by a pusher set to the bottom of the case and is can be manually adjusted by the winding crown.
This type of case is referred to as a 'monobloc', designed to eliminate unnecesary risks of water ingress due to its original type of use. The back of the case is marked with the Aquastar Geneve logo. The name Benthos is derived from the Greek word meaning 'bottom of the sea'. The dial bears the script of the depth rating of this watch of 100ATM (atmospheres), which equates to 1000m - also listed as 3300ft. The case shows a brushed steel finish to the sides, front and back. The brushed steel finish follows to the bracelet, made up of larhe block links - each showing and individual champfer. The watch also retains its original winding crown. Complete with spare links for the bracelet.
The watch is powered by a 25 jewel automatic mechanism, based on the AS caliber 2162. This watch is perhaps the best available example of an Aquastar Benthos, in incredible condition. The watch was originally made in vanisihingly small numbers and very few were ever actually sold, let alone surviving in this condition. Case reference 101075.
Case width (excluding crown) 43mm
Case height 45mm
Case depth (including glass) 17mm
