1970s Strela Sekonda 3017 USSR Cosmonaut's watch

A late 1970s Strela Sekonda 3017 USSR Cosmonaut's watch.
These watches were first issued by the Soviet military around 1959 and produced under the names of Strela (СТРЕЛА), Poljot (from 1964) and Sekonda (late 1970s). These watches were official flight gear and given to pilots for the accurate measuring of time in the sky and on the field, and they were also issued to cosmonauts until production ended in 1979.
It was also reputedly the same model of watch as worn by Alexey Leonov who became the first person to complete a space walk in 1965. In 1978, Alexey Gubarev, a Soviet cosmonaut who eventually flew on two space flights, wore a black dialled Sekonda 3017 to travel to space.
The 3017 hand-winding movement was based on the Venus 150/152 calibre and was one of the first chronograph movements produced in the Soviet Union, with production from the 1st Moscow Watch Factory. The movement in this particular watch is working nicely and has the serial number 22711.
The watch measures 36mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is plated with a stainless steel back, it is in good condition with just light marking.
The lens has light marking but is very acceptable.
The black dial is in good condition. There is a sub dial at 3 o’clock which records up to 45 minutes and another at 9 o’clock for constant seconds. The chronograph is operated by pressing the top button to start and stop, and the bottom button to re-set to zero. The hands are the originals although they do have some marking.
A new black leather strap has been fitted. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
