1970s Memosail regatta wristwatch regatta yacht watch %%alt5%%
1970s Memosail regatta wristwatch... designed to count down the remaining time until the start of the regatta.

The Memosail trademark was registered in 1972 by Ebauches SA and this was their first version of the watch, produced at around the same time.

The watch has a Valjoux 7737 hand-winding movement which is working well. The movement is signed Memosail.

The watch has two pushers for the countdown function. One pusher at 2 o’clock for start/stop, and one pusher at 4 o’clock for reset.

Under the dial is a plastic indicator disk divided in 15 segments for 15 minutes. Five segments are shown through the large aperture in the dial to follow the countdown. After a reset to zero, it shows 10-9-8-7-6 in black figures on a yellow background. When the chrono is activated the countdown starts and the orange sweep hand is set in motion. After 30 seconds the indicator disk moves half a minute, and again after 60 seconds, now showing 9-8-7-6-5. So, after the first 5 minutes of the countdown the disk is showing 5-4-3-2-1 in white figures on a red background. The process repeats and after another 5 minutes it reads START in green capitals on a white base.

The overall size of the watch is 45mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the buttons. The case is chrome plated onto brass with a signed stainless steel screw-on case back. There is a little marking to the case and surface scratches to the back but overall, and considering its job, the condition is rather good.

The lens has light marking but is very acceptable.

The signed dial is in its original finish which is in super condition.

The watch also comes with its original blue Memosail strap.

Due to Customs regulations, we are unable to send watches / precious metals to certain countries. If you are unsure about your country’s regulations, please contact us and we can check for you. Any orders from prohibited countries will be refunded, less any Paypal fees which are non-refundable.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
