1940s Watermans Duo 7 Fountain Pen 18ct Nib
We have for sale a lovely 1940s French Watermans glass cartridge Duo 7 fountain pen fitted with its original 18 carat nib.
This rather stunning large, heavy black fountain pen measures 137mm in length and is finished with double rolled gold fittings. The barrel is in two parts, the upper part screws onto the ribbed section and the blind ending upper part screws onto the lower part. The blind ending upper part of the barrel contains a hidden spring that clamps the glass cartridge in place against the cartridge seal. The pen is fitted with its original and rather unusual 18 carat gold Ideal size 8 keyhole nib, which was designed to be able to write using either the nibs top side or its underside. The Watermans Duo 7 was apparently favored by Charles De Gaulle who used his right up until his death in 1970.
The pen is in a very good to excellent condition and has only minimal surface ware. The nib is in an excellent condition and writes smoothly. The original cartridge seal is aged but functional. I did consider replacing the cartridge seal but have left it in place to preserve the originality of the pen.
