1930s Cortebert pocket watch

1930s Cortebert pocket watch.
Cortebert was founded in Cortebert, Switzerland in 1790 by Abraham-Louis Juillard although he did not officially register the name until 1855. Cortebert traded very successfully earning a reputation for manufacturing both high quality watches and movements. They also supplied railroad watches, where accuracy and reliability is paramount, for Turkey and Italy.
The company ceased trading in the 1970s, as did so many other mechanical watch manufacturers, with the advent of the quartz era.
This particular watch has a stem-winding movement, calibre 536, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has an indentation.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and it is in good condition, just minor surface marking and a little scratching to the back but nothing too detrimental at all. The engine turned detail to the hinged case back is still nice and crisp.
The watch has a glass lens, the main face of which is in good condition. There is a small chip at the bottom with a resulting 1mm hole but it is not overly noticeable to the naked eye. There are traces of the old lens adhesive around the edge.
The signed dial is in beautiful condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
