William Kay set up Kays of Worcester in 1890. Customers bought items from handbills in a folder and initially the goods on offer were limited to antique jewellery, watches, antique clocks and household items. Eventually William’s son Jack took over the running of the business, just a year after this particular watch was made. The company continued to expand and trade successfully, becoming one of Worcester’s largest employers.
This particular watch has Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. It is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch itself measures 49mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case backs for Birmingham 1924 with a case maker’s mark for the Dennison Watch Case Company, a prolific case manufacturer who supplied various watch makers. The case is in nice condition, just a couple of small shallow indentations to the back but nothing too serious at all.
The glass lens is in lovely condition.
The signed dial has a faint hairline across the middle and a few short hairlines around the edge. There are also a couple of small chips to the edge but these are mostly hidden by the bezel.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
