1914 Longines silver pocket watch for Camerer Kuss
Antique silver Longines pocket watch originally retailed by Camerer Kuss & Co, London.
Camerer Kuss & Co was established 1788. In 1914, just after this particular watch was made, they changed the spelling of their name to Camerer Cuss in response to the anti-German feeling at the onset of World War One.
This watch has a stem-winding movement, Longines 19.75N, which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the name of the original retailer, Camerer Kuss & Co, and Longines would have supplied the watch as a private label piece. The serial number on the movement is
28,767,722 which dates it to 1912/1913. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for London (import mark), 1914, with a maker's mark for Arthur Baume (Baume & Co were the importers of Longines watches to UK and the Commonwealth) and a retailer's mark for Camerer Kuss & Co.
The case is in beautiful condition, as is the acrylic lens.
The signed dial is in lovely condition too and it has its original pin-set blued steel hands.
