1908 silver Longines campaign hunter pocket watch
1908 silver Longines campaign hunter pocket watch & chain. Originally retailed by Marcks & Co Ltd Bombay & Poona.
Marcks and Co. of Bombay and Poona and who are still around today (now they sell Rolex and Hublot) back then they retailed very expensive Swiss watches to Maharajas and cheaper ones to military personal.
The watch has a stem-winding movement which has been fully tested and is working nicely. The movement is signed with the retailers name Marcks & Co Ltd Bombay & Poona, and Campaign watch, Swiss made. The Longines calibre number is 18.50 which is under the balance. The movement is lever set.
The watch measures 49mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The silver case has London import marks for 1908 and the case makers mark AB Aurthur Baume (the distobutor for Longines in the UK) . The case is in good condition for its age with just a little gentle unevenness to the front & back and some light surface marks from use.
The watch lens is plastic and is in nice condition.
The dial is signed Marcks and Co. of Bombay and Poona, Swiss made. The dial has a faint hairline crack to the edge at 4 o'clock but otherwise it is in nice condition.
The watch has its original blued steel hands.
The watch comes on a silver watch chain with Birmingham hallmarks for 1900 and the makers mark G E G (George Edward Gee), The chain measures 30cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
