Antique 18th century bible box,c 1740. I think it is constructed from Oak and has a lovely 'plain' Country style with pie crust edging. The lock appears to be original but the hinges look to have been replaced. The colour / patina is lovely, rich and mellow. Overall condition is good with minor surface wear and an historic repair to a split in the lid. A genuine useful antique exactly as you would hope to find it.
