18th Century George III Welsh Oak Candle Box

1 of 6
A lovely and completely original tall Welsh oak candle box with a rich colour and lovely deep natural patina.
Made with slender hand sawn and polished boards in c, 1860 and with its original leather hinge with iron rivet fixing to upper and lower edges. Slope lidded and beautifully made, the arched pediment with hole for hanging (naturally shaped by generations who have lifted the box and returned it to the wall hook each night)
A superior example of a Welsh vernacular candle box, completely original.
Fabulous colour and patination from years of daily use. In fine and original condition throughout with small knocks and dings consistent with age and caring use.
A reminder of a simpler time when homes had no electricity and candles lit your evening tasks and the stairway up to bed.
Dimensions are:
5.75 inches wide, 5 inches deep and 20 inches tall.
For metric please multiply by 2.5
I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
