1950s Lucite & tin foil powder compact vintage gifts for wives / girlfriends / sisters
An outstandingly beautiful mid-century Melissa Lucite powder compact in excellent condition. The whole compact has the most attractive gilt finish that was lacquered at the point of manufacture & so it will never tarnish or need to be cleaned. The lid has elaborate guilloche engraving with a border of engraved floral motifs. In the middle is a Lucite dome which covers an enchanting arrangement of Lucite flowers & foliage -four adorable & tiny two tone pink rose buds, two roses and two golden leaves. All of these are set on a background of foil. Around this time in England foil was made from tin & so this is a suitable tin (10th) wedding anniversary gift. The interior contains a lidded powder well which is decorated with guilloche engraving. The mirror gives a very good & accurate reflection. The mirror bezel is inscribed 'MADE IN ENGLAND'. The underside of the inner lid is satinized & so too is the powder well, giving this luxurious accessory an even more appealing appearance. The original sifter is in place & so this compact can be used with loose face powder or as a handbag mirror. The base also has an engine turned design.
This vintage compact measures 3 1/4" & weighs 110.8 grams.
