Large Silver Photo Frame by A&J Zimmerman 1919

Description
A large rectangular silver photograph frame by A&J Zimmerman 1919. The frame has a rectangular aperture within a wide rectangular frame with moulded detail to outer edge. Blue velvet covered back-board and easel support with watered silk lining behind its glass. The support is set on the diagonal, allowing the frame to be displayed in either portrait or landscape aspects. Retaining swivel clips locating its back-board. Clear hallmarks for the Birmingham Assay Office 1919 and makers A & J Zimmerman Ltd. External dimensions are 25.5 cm by 20.5 cm. The aperture measures 19.5 cm by 14.5 cm.The silver frame is in very good overall condition commensurate with age. Its back-board and support leg have been re-covered in blue velvet and watered-silk lining to glass has been replaced. Hinged support and retaining clips are in excellent working order. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.
A&J Zimmerman was founded in 1879 by Arthur S. Zimmerman and John Ulrich Zimmerman. They had their workshops located in both Birmingham and London as well as a London Showroom through which they sold their silverware. The company was registered as a limited company in 1902 but by 1930 had gone into voluntary liquidation. Little information survives of the history of the firm of A&J Zimmerman, however the lasting nature of so many of their items of silverware speaks to the quality and craftsmanship of their pieces.
