Description

A superb quality reading stand made by John Carter with Burr Walnut adjustable reading slope which can pivot and twist with roller ball mechanism depending on the needs of the user over occasional table centre which revolves and also adjusts in height with brass thumb screw and spiral twist stem the base is cast iron and has paw feet and roles on castors.
The back stamped with John Carters plaque also stamped John Carters to the brass casting.
Famed for his various inventions under the Trade Marked banner 'Literary Machines', John Carter was a Victorian inventor / cabinet maker operating out of 6A Cavendish Street, Portland Place, London from the 1880's.
