Superb reverse glass painted silhouette showing a delightful domestic scene circa 1840, under a plush looped curtain with polychrome highlighting. A small child offers a flower to her father while her older sister pets the family songbird.
At some point, the backing paper has been replaced with striped paper which is entirely in keeping with the silhouettes.
Reverse glass painted silhouettes are very sought after, as they give a pleasing 3d effect by throwing shadows of the silhouettes on to the backing paper.
This silhouette is in excellent condition in it's original ebonised frame. Painted about 1940 in a historical style, it is a stylish decorative piece. This silhouette is one of a pair which I am selling.
