Reverse Glass Painted Silhouette

Photos

Description

Superb reverse painted glass silhouette showing a delightful domestic scene circa 1840 under a plush looped curtain, with polychrome highlighting.
A small girl dances with her pet dog, while her mother plays the harp, and her father plays an early piano.
At some point the backing paper has been replaced with striped paper, which is entirely in keeping with the silhouette.
Reverse glass painted silhouettes are sought after, as they give a pleasing 3d effect by throwing shadows of the silhouettes onto the backing paper.
This silhouette is in excellent condition in it's original ebonised frame. Painted around 1940 in a historical style, it is a stylish decorative piece. It is one of a pair which I am selling.
