Description

A magnificent bronze figural inkwell of two stallions fighting on a naturalistic base – circa 1840-1860. Once this cover is lifted off it reveals a cut-glass inkwell within the base. The base consists of a bronze series of stepped bases with typical English knurling designs on the first two steps. A series of a further four steps lead up to the stem holding the bowl which in turn holds the inkwell itself. The bowl has three evenly spaced winged lion monopedia holding up the outside rim of the bowl and between these is heavily cast acanthus decoration. This is an extraordinary Gothic desk inkwell of impressive size.

Diameter at base – 15.5cm
Height – 22.5cm
