Description

A lovely bureau bookcase. We date this bureau to the 1930s.

The bureau sits on eight Queen Anne legs with pad feet and has a lovely two tier shaped top.

The bureau sits in the centre flanked by a lower glazed bookcase cabinet at each side.

The bureau top has canted corners and a drop flap over a bank of two drawers. The drop flap lowers to reveal numerous pigeon holes and small drawers with a brown writing surface.

The drawers are fitted with ornate drop handles mounted on circular backplates. The bureau drop flap is fitted with a lock (key is supplied).

There is a kneehole area below the drawers with a carved apron and a carved strip between the drop flap and the drawers.

The lower side bookcases have an attractive carving to the outer top front edge and are each fitted with shapely glazed doors with wood glazing strips and fitted with working locks (key is supplied).

The interior in both bookcases are fitted with three height adjustable wooden shelves.

The bookcase cabinet has an overall height of 46.5"(118cm), a width of 55.5" (141cm) at legs and a depth of 13" (33cm) at legs.

The bookcase shelves have a depth of 10.5” (26cm).

This lovely walnut bookcase bureau cabinet remains in very good solid condition with only very minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage. There is some minor wear and indentations to the top surface and some of the edges. The writing surface has some darker marks and minor wear.

This remains a very stylish and elegant bureau bookcase cabinet which could house a reasonable sized collection of books and display a small sized collection of objects d'art etc. It will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
