Description

A lovely oak bureau. We date this bureau to the early 20th century.

The bureau comes in two sections, the bureau and a separate gallery.

The central drop flap is fitted with a lock (key supplied) when lowered it rests on two pull out supports, there is a side hinged panel to each side that opens to reveal the full interior. The fitted interior consists of various pigeon holes and two small drawers.

The lower section has a kneehole area below a central drawer and two side drawers. The kneehole area is flanked by three graduated drawers to each side.

The top gallery has an attractive pierced carving in the centre, with a small shapely shelf to each side.

There is a brass key insert that is stamped “The Britisher Desk”.

The bureau has a height of 56" (143cm) including the gallery, a width of 48" (122cm) and a depth of 18.5" (47cm).

This lovely bureau remains in very good solid condition with surface markings commensurate with age and usage. The top gallery is slightly loose and there is wear to the finish throughout primarily to the inside due to a long and useful life.

This remains a simple yet stylish and elegant bureau. It will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
