Description

A lovely mirrored back washstand. We date this washstand to the late 19th century.

The washstand is supplied in three sections. The mirror, the base section and the marble top.

The washstand sits on attractive carved cabriole legs at the front and rectangular section legs to the rear.

The washstand has a shapely carved mahogany framed bevelled mirror that sits on the marble top and is screwed to the base section.

The base section consists of a lovely marble top in various grey shades. The base has two side by side drawers fitted with decorative cast brass handles and a lock. The cupboard below has two side hinged doors with attractive carved panels, the right hand door is fitted with a lock and the left hand door has a top and bottom catch. The key is supplied for the drawers and cupboard.

The washstand has an overall height of 77" (196cm) including the mirror, a base table top height of 34.5" (88cm), a base width of 50.5" (128cm), and a base depth of 22.5" (57cm).

This lovely carved mahogany washstand remains in good solid condition with only minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage. The marble top has been replaced at some point in its life and sits very slightly recessed from the base at the sides and has an overhang at the front, there is a chip to the marble to the rear right hand side corner. There are a couple of tiny pieces of carving missing from the bottom right hand side of the mirror frame.

This remains a stylish and elegant washstand. It will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
