Description

A lovely rosewood davenport. We date this davenport to the second half of the 19th century.

The davenport sits on four ceramic castors.

The davenport is fitted with a writing slope with a leather writing surface. At the rear of the desktop there is a raised hinged section that lifts up to reveal a sectional storage area for pens, ink etc. The main interior has an open storage space with small storage sections to the inside rear. There are four drawers on the outer right hand side and four dummy drawers on the left hand side. The drawers are fitted with drop handles mounted on decorative backplates.

The desk has a knee hole area and the front is supported by lovely turned legs.

The writing slope rear hinged section and drawers are fitted with locks (no key is supplied, but one should be obtainable if required).

The davenport has an overall height of 32.5" (83cm), a width of 21" (54cm) and a depth of 21" (54cm).

This lovely antique davenport remains in a good solid condition with surface markings commensurate with age and usage. There is some minor wear to some edges and the top surface and there are some usage ink marks to the inside of the rear hinged section and some filled marks to the top where a small gallery would have been at some time in the past. There is an old repair to the underside of the right hand leg where it has been plated.

This remains a very stylish and elegant davenport. It will continue to provide sterling service for many years to come.
