Description

A lovely large bookcase. We date this bookcase to the mid 19th century.

The bookcase sits on a plain plinth base and comes in three sections for transport, the base cupboard, the top glazed bookcase and the cornice.

The base section is fitted with three cupboards, each with a side hinged panelled door, the interior of the base cupboards are fitted with a mid height fixed position wooden shelf. The centre cupboard is slightly wider than the two side cupboards and there are attractive mouldings beside each door.

The top section has an ornate cornice and is fitted with three glazed side hinged doors, each has four adjustable wooden shelves. The glazed doors match the base in width so the centre bookcase is slightly wider. There are reeded columns with a carved finial between each glazed door.

The bookcase and base cupboards are fitted with locks (keys are supplied).

The bookcase has an overall height of 92" (234cm), a cornice width of 73.5" (187cm) and a base depth of 21" (54cm).

This lovely bookcase remains in a good solid condition with surface markings commensurate with age and usage, these include a few minor indentations to some edges with some light scratches to the top surface of the base section from past use. The plinth base has some indents and also some wear where the doors have opened and closed over the years.

This remains a very stylish bookcase cabinet. It could house a good sized collection of books etc. and will continue to provide sterling service for many years to come.
