Description

An lovely large Victorian mahogany linen press. We date this press to the first half of the 19th century.

The press comes in 2 sections, the top section and the drawer base. The top section has had the drawers removed and a full width rail has been added to allow it to be used for hanging clothes.

The press sits on bracket feet and has a stepped cornice. The doors have a wonderful inlaid design featuring swag and urns.

The right hand door is fitted with a lock (key supplied) and the left hand door has top and bottom catches.

The base has three deep drawers fitted with brass drop ring handles mounted on decorative backplates. The drawers are fitted with locks (no key is supplied although one should be obtainable if required).

The press has an overall height of 85.5" (218cm), a cornice width of 50" (127cm) and a cornice depth of 23" (59cm).

The internal hanging height is 42” (106cm) and the depth 19.5” (49cm).

This lovely Victorian press remains in very good solid condition with minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage. There are some marks to the right hand side panel including one larger indentation mark and wear to some of the edges. There are a couple of old repairs to the press.

This remains a very stylish and elegant large Victorian press which provides a very large amount of useful storage space. It will continue to provide sterling service for many years to come.
