Description

An superb early 18th century English figured walnut chest of drawers. The chest consists of two short drawers over three long drawers, with later polished period brassware that jumps out against the figured walnut and chestnut crossbanding, the drawers retain the original elm linings and boards with original locks although one is missing. The chest stands on bracket feet, which were most likely added in the late 18th - early 19th century when the original buns were lost or broken, which is a common transition to see on chests of this age, when the chest is tipped up you can see the original holes where the bun feet were once located.
The top of the chest has lovely figuring in the walnut veneers with chestnut cross banding and a chestnut diamond in the the center. The surface patina and colour is really lovely and the chest is in excellent condition and ready for use.
