Description

A superb late 17th - early 18th century travelling trunk probably French.
The trunk is lavishly decorated with high quality and detailed tooled leather with brass studs and worn gilded dual lock plates and hasps with carrying handles to the sides.
On top of the domed lid is a flamboyant coats of arms with two reclining cherubs supporting a crown, surrounded by boarders of gadrooning and rolling foliage.
The interior has a very worn silk lining, with a secret compartment to the left hand side, probably for important documents.
The travelling trunk has a very small tare above the right hand side hasp and there are a couple of studs missing from the bottom of the back. However considering its age, it is in remarkably excellent condition and also has a superb colour and patination to the surface of the leather.
