A small framed Victorian sampler, silk cross stitch on linen. Simple single stitch border, lower/upper case letters, numbers and religious verse.

The linen is mounted on a similar coloured paper, it is a a little discoloured but is not stained and the thread colours are still quite strong.

Their is is sufficient information on this example to trace the individuals family tree: Mary Ann Lee was born in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, England in 1832 and her family history is available on the internet. In 1851 she is on the Census as a laundry maid at Stoneleigh Abbey, Warwickshire, a very large country house whose history is also well documented.
