Description

A truly unique carved oak hall bench. This item came from the estate of the late Captain 'Tiger' Sarll (1882-1977) who was a war correspondent, big game hunter, Actor, Journalist and became well known for his characteristic dress of frock-coat, striped trousers, silk hat, patent leather boots with a monocle in one eye. The bench is predominantly made from oak with some mixed timbers making up the back rests with pressed leather inserts which feature vine and grapes throughout. To the base are a pair of later cast iron brackets which support the high backed columns. We feel that this piece has been added to over the years, however it is such a great survivor and well worth a new home. Seat Height 51cm circa 1860-70
