Description

A magnificent Gent of Leicester floor standing electric clock. This clock was originally from the frontage of a chemists shop in Somerset and was adapted by the manufacturer to stand on a ledge above the shop entrance. The dial is white with black Arabic numbers with the original weighted blacked hands. The case is steel with cast iron feet and fitted with a glass. It would have originally been sealed throughout so that it could withstand the elements however these have perished so it is now only for internal use. It is fully working and keeps reasonable time. Gent were master clockmakers throughout the 20th century and hit their stride in the 1940s/50s. Their handsome unfussy styling was a hallmark of railway/factory clocks that graced platforms and factory walls up and down the country during the halycon days of steam travel and manufacturing.
